If you want to watch videos with no time wasting introduction, this is the channel to watch.
Some of my videos are not DIY.
They are intended for people who already know how to work on cars/truck.
You must know how to safely jack up a car and know what tool to use if I don't mention it. I am very familiar with electrical and electronics. If I don't tell you to DISCONNECT the car battery during a procedure, that mean its not necessary for you to do so. Yes I know we don't torque every bolt to spec, but if I have the torque specification, I will mention it. I often use manufacturer special tool if it make the job easier and I cannot, or don't have the time to make my own.
Thanks for viewing my channel.

Great video but I can't find the part 2 / 4 clutch oil seal ( the small black plastic piece) please help i even called the dealership.
Sorry, it's been a long time since I made that video. I should have included the part numbers. I went to the dealer with the old one in my hand. They didn't know what it was even though I showed it to them. They showed me an exploded view of the transmission and I pointed it out. They got the number from there.
Is Skimming mandatory before replacing the pads?
If your rotors have groves in it. YES. Cut / Skim them if within tolerance or replace them.
Great explanation of how the transmission works. But what fluids should it be filled with? Does the center differential torsen have any special oil, or does it share oil with the front differential and the gearbox? Thank you.
I use Fuchs gear oil or the one from the dealer which is probably made by Fuchs. There is only one type of oil in this transmission. The automatic version made by ZF use auto trans fluid for the front section and gear oil for the rear (torsen diff).
@@pnswg01 There are disagreements about what viscosity to use, 75w90 or 75w80? gl4 or gl5?
@@raulgambramartinez65 I am not a transmission repair person so I can only speak about what I use. I tried Redline after rebuild and that was the worst. I changed that real quick because shifting was not good especially from 1st to 2nd and when it's cold. I replaced it with Fuchs 75w90 and that was a night and day difference. The next time I changed it I went with the one from the dealer. (I didn't see any difference between the dealer oil and the Fuchs) As for GL4 or GL5, I don't remember.
This was really helpful but how do you get the white part to stay up without going back down

What happens if the o-rings on the solenoids are not sealing right cuz there’s fluid inside the solenoid pack and I’m getting code p076a check the resistance check out good 1.3 ohms my dodge journey is in limp mode stuck in 2nd gear
I have a 2011 vw that won’t shift out of first gear is this the same thing that needs to be changed?
Hi! I also have a vw Routan that won’t shift out of first gear . Just wandering did you happen to find out what the problem was. Would greatly appreciate the help if you know
I really appreciate the detail in the video like others have mentioned. I watched 4 or 5 other videos before coming across yours. All were similar, but you went more in-depth. Especially regarding the check balls in valve body, could have been worse if I hadn't known about them. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video to share with all of us!
That is the way UA-cam algorithm works. This was the first video on this subject yet has the least amount of views. Two versions of it. This is the final version. Other videos don't even bother with illustrations which take more time to do. Overall this is more of a slide than a video but it gets the point it's trying to show. For me, it doesn't worth my time to make videos anymore. Thanks for watching...
Many Thanks
Thank you so much for this
Thanks for watching.
Patrick, hoping you can help. I just acquired a used TDI 01E. I have not yet installed into my 2004 2.7 A6. This used trans shifter shaft works well by hand shifting on the bench. I slightly rotate the input shaft for alignment and the gears fall into place. Shifting has a good feel, however, the input shaft will not rotate when engaged into any gear. Also, while in neutral, or any gear, the axel flanges will only rotate in opposite rotation. I'm unable to rotate the axel flanges together in the same direction. Is it hard to rotate the input shaft because of the Torsen differential? And is it also due to the Torsen that I can't rotate the two axels in the same direction? Or, do you feel that the trans is damaged? Any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time. Dennis
If you turn any axle flange forward, the opposite side turns backwards. This is normal. That is the way differentials work. You would have to turn both sides in the same direction at the same time. Try applying tension to both drive flange so one cannot turn without the other and power should transfer to the output shaft at the torsen differential. ua-cam.com/video/VN4_asSBEKY/v-deo.htmlsi=T8878DMp94L0eVt7

Good Day Patrick, thank you for the informative Video. Quick Question, the Foot Pedal red Light on the left of the gear selector Mechanism, why would it iluminate some times and sometimes not?
Hello, my Journey 2014 3.6 went into emergency mode and made a cavitation noise in the Valve Body, I replaced the Filter and the oil because it was clogged and after I replaced the oil and the filter the Code P083B appears, already I reset the code with a scanner but the code comes back, I've already checked all the electrical harnesses, everything is ok, and no noise appears. Could it be the valve body? Or the Pressure Sensor?
Thank you sir!
I am getting 3.0 ohms at pin 20 dc solenoid all others good as i get a p076a code no shift shut off restart car then ok for couple more miles and notice when no shift manual shift is gone also when acts up should i change solenoid thanks!

Same here. SE model@NA. The user manual says it has one, but I don’t see it behind the glove box.
Great video and very informative, but I did have a question. If the the car does not shift from first gear, could this be also the solenoid pack?
Hi mate any answer to your question as my tranny only has 1st and reverse? Don’t want to do more work than needed.Did you fix it? Thanks Steve
I love the music
Very informative. Thank you so much, Patrick. I thought I needed to remove the strange bolts, which require a 5033 socket, and I've struggled to do that with my regular 10-point socket. I broke the bolts and went to an Audi dealer to purchase new ones. The guy in the parts department showed me the repair instruction and told me those bolts were not supposed to be removed to do the brake job. I should have watched your video first.
Thanks for watching. Sorry about the broken bolts.

@@albert84apj I see the side , with screws that are vertical. I’ll try the top compartment.
Tell me why are you replacing the return line , its not part of fuel pump hihi
In the USA, most new fuel pump comes with the clear hose attached with ear clamps. You simply plug it to the port inside the fuel tank. We are NOT replacing the return line, it comes with the fuel pump. We are just removing the old pump module and replacing it with a new one. If you happen to get the electric pump with no hose attach to it then you have no choice but to use the old lines. Thanks for watching.
What a great video, I don't need this major repair but if I ever did it is awesome! Thanks. I left another comment below which was why I came to your video. Thanks! If he saved you a lot of money I suggest supporting him with $$ for all his hard work. He could've just kept this knowledge to himself.
Thanks for watching. I had two stalling problems with the van in the past. First time was when driving the engine would stall for no reason, mostly when cold, well there was a reason. The EGR valve was bad. It would only stall after you start driving. The other was a bad TCC solenoid. See a previous comment... I don't want to repeat myself.
Hello, would it be a fuel pump issue if when I park on a slope, after some time (20-30 mins I guess) the car cranks longer than normal till it starts? Once started it works fine even on big slopes or garage ramps. It only struggles if left on slopes or just for a long time parked anywhere. It's an audi a6 avant c5 4b 1998 2.4 petrol
I have never seen this before. The fuel system should still be under enough pressure to inject fuel as soon as the fuel pump turns on. If the pressure is dropping I would check elsewhere. Not to say this is not a fuel pump issue. In my experience, the fuel pump sometimes stops running intermittently when going bad, but it never depends on a slope. In this case I would hit the bottom of the fuel tank and sometimes get lucky. Check to see if it's an engine temperature issue. If you're getting a long crank when the engine is cold. It could be the engine temperature sensor going bad. (If it's reading that the engine is warm but it's actually cold, the injectors will not squirt extra fuel for cold start, thus the crank time gets longer)
@@pnswg01 alright thanks a lot, I've read somewhere it could be the sensor too, I'll see. To test the pump, I can just use a multimeter on the cables seen in the video, right? I'll also check fuel pressure in vcds as well.
@@pnswg01 also, forgot to mention the engine fan turns on after a cold start.
@@insus100 If you have VCDS check the engine temperature when the car is cold. If it seems way off then change it.
@@insus100 The fan uses a different sensor, I think it's blue or green.
A great overview video. A few small points for those who care. Audi recommends replacing the caliper mounting bolts each time it is installed since they can stretch over time. Probably fine for most people to leave as-is, but just worth mentioning. Also, they do recommend replacing the 6 spring plates per caliper (the small discs). Audi official parts are stupidly overpriced, but you can find replacements from elsewhere for around $10 each. And I may have missed it, but did you replace the brake clip or reuse it?
From what I know not all VW Routan's have it. Supposedly only the SEL/Premium have it. Mine does not have it, which is dumb!
Oh no!!!! This is a lot of work 😳 Somehow ours came out because of the kids
Wow Thank you!! It's the same 2 connectors on my Passat 4motion tdi and i forgot to check how they were connected. This is the ONLY video on internet about those 2 connectors. Its easier to find bidens lost laptop than this video.
Unfortunately, that's how it is. If you make a good video, few people comment because they get all the information they want. According to Google, little comments and low like count means your video is not engaging and not worth promoting. It's just the sad reality. Thanks for watching.
@@pnswg01 i made a video from my passat 4motion after not finding anyone about this. And 3 days after upload i found your video. I am waiting for my fuel relay and maybe i open up the hatch again just to check my 2 connectors but it seems to work. I do remember i thought to put the black wires in the middle but if i put the wrong connectors at wrong side i dont know or if it has any meaning at all as long as the fuel gauge works. But first day after changing the relay and open this up the instrument showing how long i can drive on what fuel i have was going up and down by 200 kilometers. But now after i have been using it for a few days it seems to have stabilized itself.
@@pnswg01 and also, my TDI fuel pump for the 4motion is no where to be bought unless its used. Dealership wanted 850 usd for a new one that they maybe could find from old stock. But what NOONE is telling anyone is that you easily can just remove the pump itself and replace it with a new pump for almost any passat. Just remove the pump it's after all just Clipped in with 3 clamps and it cost 30usd from any online shop. Its 17 usd if you buy it from china. So the white piece of plastic is actually charged as 820 usd and the pump itself cost 30 usd. Its insanely stupid. The video is on my channel if anyone reads this. You should also add some tags like 4motion passat tdi fuel pump and so on to make it easier to find for the people with 4 wheel drive vag
Thanks to Jose for answering my question. One other question I'm curious about, all the charts/tables I have seen online showing what the ohm readings should be for the 62te solenoid pack (in particular the one that the Motor City Mechanic has), show the solenoids should be 1.6-1.8 ohms except for the Line Pressure Solenoid which is 4.8-5.1 ohms and the signal pins show 300 ohms. All my solenoids are 1.1 ohms, the line pressure solenoid is 2.6 ohms (most likely bad) and my signal pins all have 104.4 ohms, those readings are consistent which I'm going to assume is good but like I said different from any posted chart or diagram I've seen ? Are there some that are different does anybody know or I have I got an oddball solenoid block ? The transmission has a tag on it that says it is a rebuilt transmission.
I'm getting 2.6 ohms on the Line Pressure Solenoid (pin 12) is that acceptable or not ?
No

Well... i tried to loosen the nuts of the turbocharger-flange and the nut didn't come loose, but the stud in the turbocharger became loose. Is this fixable with the turbocharger in place or do you recommend pulling the whole engine?
Yes, it is fixable, you can either reuse the same stud/nut that came out or buy new stud and nut. To insert the new stud, lock 2 nuts together on the stud by turning each other in opposite direction. Use the top nut to screw in the stud until tight then remove the nuts. Depending on which one, space will be thight but it's doable. Thanks for watching and commenting.
